Privacy Policy

Last updated 16 October 2026

Topstory is built to show you the news, not to collect data about you. There are no accounts, no ads and no tracking. This page explains what the app does with information.

What we don't collect

  • No account, name, email address or phone number. You can use the app without signing up.
  • No location, contacts, photos or other personal data from your device.
  • No advertising identifiers, analytics or third-party tracking tools.

What stays on your device

A few things are saved on your iPhone so the app works the way you left it: the stories you save, the news sources and reading mode you choose, and whether you have seen the welcome screen. They are stored only on your device, never sent to us, and are deleted when you delete the app.

What the app sends over the internet

  • Loading the news. To show your feed, the app asks the Topstory server for stories, optionally filtered by topic. Like any web server, it receives basic technical details with each request, such as your IP address and the time. We use these only to run and protect the service, and we don't use them to build a profile of you.
  • Images. Story images are loaded from the original publishers' websites, so those sites receive the same basic technical details.
  • Reading the full story. When you tap "Read full story", the publisher's website opens and its own privacy policy applies.
  • Sharing. Sharing uses the standard iOS share sheet. We don't see what you share or with whom.

Children

Topstory is a general news app and isn't directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy

If the app starts handling information differently, we will update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect.
